From The Ground Up

A Modern Property

We believe that the general perception of a home involves a traditional external appearance, regardless of "architectural style" whether it be "Tudor", "Georgian", "Victorian", "Edwardian" or whatever, any combination or interpretation thereof.

But inside, modern living calls for far different use of space. The small rooms and draughty widows of a period property have no place in the 21st Century.

Open plan and flexibility are the watchwords of today's homes.  There is an old and over used adage that states "They don't build them like they used to!"  Thankfully this is quite true, there are laws against it.

Modern building practice is a million miles away from traditional methods; although we would not set out to criticise, especially as there are still so many fine examples of period properties in existence.  From the ground up, the only similarity between our new homes and their elderly relatives is the appearance!

In a modern home, high tech' heating systems, in conjunction with superior insulation products negate the need for small rooms, many of the houses we build have large open plan areas that often throw all the general living accommodation into one vast area. Doors shut people out! For instance, kitchen and dining areas amalgamate with family or TV. rooms. Underfloor heating allows the extensive use of ceramic flooring and makes these large open areas viable.

We endeavour to minimise the use of timber on the outside of our homes, certainly nothing at high level will ever require redecoration, all fascias and soffits along with our high performance windows are UPVC. In fact the only place that we always use wood externally is the front door, and we justify this on the basis that it is 'traditional', and conveys the 'right' feel and appearance that we strive for.

Internally we use modern layouts, spacious hallways, up to date 'designer' kitchens which include a full appliance packages. Our bathrooms and cloakrooms are fitted out in contemporary style, typically using sanitary ware and tiles from Porcelanosa, or Villeroy and Boch. We also believe that 'all' bathrooms should have a shower, so even if there is not enough room for a separate cubicle, we always fit a shower over the bath. Extensive use of low energy down lighting is attractive and helps minimise running costs.

We appreciate modern convenience and clean lines, and hope you will too.
